A couple of years ago I bought a 2018 car after having driven a 1998 car for 10 years. I learned what a FOB was. Around the same time, I got an automatic garage door installed. Remotes and pressing buttons were new to me. Especially starting and turning a car off without a key.
I came home one morning and pressed the button to open my garage, drove my car in, pressed the button again, closed the garage, and came in through my kitchen door. I went about my business inside the house. About six hours later I started to smell something. I couldn't figure out what it could be. I opened my kitchen door to the garage and was hit with hot air and a strong gasoline odor. I quickly shut the door after realizing I had left my car on all that time!
I quickly went outside and opened the garage door so that it could air out. After a few minutes, I went into my car and turned it off. I left the garage door open, opened house doors and windows, and turned my ceiling fans.
It happened that on that particular day, I had the AC repairman working in my attic. While he was working here, he had opened the front door because he needed to flush the system and he used a water hose from outside.
On that same day, a lady was going door to door selling filtered water systems. She asked if she could test the water in my kitchen sink. She came in took a little bit of water from the sink faucet and quickly went outside because she said, "The smell is very strong. I'm starting to feel faint."
I believe had it not been for the AC repairman and this lady, the carbon monoxide build-up may have been fatal. Had it happened any other day who knows if I would still be here? I spent that night at my daughter’s house while I left my house windows open to air it out. I give God all the glory for saving my life!
