Years ago my wife got to the school she works at very early in the morning. It was still dark outside and her office is on the opposite side of the gymnasium. She opened the gym door, but the light switch was on the opposite side of the gym. She stood there in complete darkness not being able to see anything. As she stood completely still, her eyes began to adjust and she could start to make out her surroundings. The longer she stood still in the dark room, the more she could see in the dark.
As if God Himself was beside her, the Holy Spirit said to her, "Never get used to the darkness of this world. Never get used to sin in your life to the point you aren’t convicted of that sin. Never get used to the wickedness of this world where it fails to bother you anymore. Never push the Holy Spirit to the side when He tells you to stop a sin, an activity, anything that was once dark, but now doesn’t seem so bad. Guard your hearts as Christians and never get adjusted and ok with the devil and his wicked darkness."
This lesson from the Lord reminded us on that day that we are called to be holy as He is holy and to constantly cause His light to dispel darkness . We don’t adjust to darkness. Darkness flees the light. Stay on guard.
"Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will
never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
