What do you mean, “There is no room?” The birth of Christ depicts Joseph and Mary frantically looking for a place where she can have baby Jesus. But there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7. Have you ever wondered if we behave like that, especially during the holiday season? We bustle here and there at all hours of the day and night, looking for that perfect gift. We trim the tree, wrap the presents, plan the Christmas meal, and attend the holiday festivities. Not to mention keeping up with all the normal regular activities. Then we collapse into bed, and do the same thing all over again the next day. Mmmmm- not the best way to do things.
Celebrating the Christmas season can be a time of mixed emotions. It can be a time of joy and excitement for some, and for others, it can be a time of sadness and loneliness. But Jesus’s birth was a time of bringing hope and salvation to all mankind, just as the angel proclaimed to the shepherds, “I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11. Jesus wasn’t partial to any particular group of people. He came to be the savior for ALL MANKIND, whether rich or poor, Jew or Greek, slave or free, it didn’t matter to Him. His gift of salvation was for everybody, and it is still available for everybody today. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Sons, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
So don’t get so caught up in the “activities of Christmas”, that you forget about Jesus and say, “There is no room in the inn.” Simeon was watching and waiting in the temple for the Consolation of Israel. And when he saw Jesus he said, “For my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of
Your people Israel.” Luke 2:30-31. Simeon made time for Jesus. He was watching and waiting for an encounter with Him, and he got one. Yes, life can be busy. And there is always a lot of things that require our attention. But make time and space in your heart, in your “inn” for Jesus. Open the door and let Him come in. Because remember, JESUS IS the reason for the season. Wishing you a Christ Filled Christmas.
